High power wirewounds for heavy equipment and large motor control applications...

STACKPOLE ELECTRONICS, INC. INTRODUCES THE ETW SERIES OF EDGEWOUND TUBULAR WIREWOUND RESISTORS

RALEIGH, NC (September 6, 2007) – Stackpole Electronics, Inc. introduces a new series of large tubular non-flammable wirewounds for power resistor applications ranging from as low as 10 watts up to 1300 watts. Resistance values from 0.1 to 1.3 Meg are available in 5% standard tolerances, although smaller sizes have a more limited resistance value range. They feature two separate types of mounting flanges that are separate from the electrical terminals for easier and more reliable connection to heavy equipment and motors where significant vibration occurs. Physical sizes range from slightly longer than two inches to over 28 inches in total length.

The ETW Series is ideal for a variety of high power applications. Many types of large motors will use this type of resistor as a braking resistor, including electrical motors for elevators and escalators, cranes and hoists, irrigation systems, and the large motors on cruise ships. Heavy drilling equipment will use this type of braking resistor as will electric golf carts and some types of exercise equipment. Metal forming and processing equipment and paper processing equipment will also use this type of resistor as will some consumer appliances. Other applications include water and sewage pumps, ventilation fans, pressure washers, conveyors, mixers, and large power tools such as saws and planers.

“This is a key expansion to our wirewound product line. The ETW Series now gives us a product for the extreme high power resistor market and further proves our commitment to be the complete source for all types of resistor technologies” comments Jamie Mullane, Chief Operating Officer for SEI.

The ETW Series is available in these wattages: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, 200, 250, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000, and 1300 watts. Due to their relatively large size, they are available in bulk packaging only. Pricing is size and volume dependent but ranges from $1.03 each for the 10 watt part to $52.75 each for the 1300 watt part.
