STACKPOLE ELECTRONICS, INC. ANNOUNCES THE EXPANSION OF THE CSNL SERIES OF METAL ELEMENT SURFACE MOUNT CHIP RESISTORS

RALEIGH, NC (Oct 10, 2007) – Stackpole Electronics, Inc. today announced the expansion to their current sense chip resistor product offering. The CSNL Series of SMD metal element chip resistors is now available in 1206, and 2010 sizes as well as the previous 2512 size. In addition, the CSNL 2, which is the 2512 size, has an improved resistance value range down to 0.5 milliohms and up to 22 milliohms. This 100% RoHS compliant product series is available in 1% or 5% tolerances and with a TCR of 50 ppm.

This expansion greatly improves Stackpole’s existing current sensing chip resistor in that the CSNL can now be used for higher power or high current designs. These higher power and higher current designs are rapidly increasing. “Among the drivers for this increase are increased microprocessor speeds and increased functionality within a given amount of circuit board area,” states Kory Schroeder, Stackpole’s Product Engineering Manager. He continues, “The higher the current or power supplied, the lower the resistance value must be to avoid significant power loss during the sensing, thereby reducing the efficiency of the power circuit itself.”

Among the many applications for this type of current sense chip resistor would be all types of power supplies, portable battery management, voltage regulation modules, electric motor speed regulation and DC power conversion. End products using these resistors range from displays, automotive electrical devices, desktop PC’s, laptop PC’s, cell phone’s, PDA’s, portable audio devices, and many types of communications devices.

The CSNL Series is available on standard 7 inch reels with 2000pcs per reel. Pricing is volume, size, value, and tolerance dependent but ranges approximately from $.17 each for the CSNL ½, $.20 each for the CSNL 1, and $.24 for the CSNL 2. Contact the factory for volume pricing.
