RALEIGH, NC (Jan 30, 2008) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc. announces their HVC series of high voltage chip resistors have been expanded to resistance values up to 10 Gigohms. The series has now been characterized for absolute maximum voltage ratings that are significantly higher than the previous voltage ratings. These higher absolute maximum voltage ratings are key for those applications where the terminals of the part will be isolated from each other, usually with some type of potting compound. The HVC maintains the capability for .5% tolerance and 25 ppm TCR also. These expansions re-establish the HVC series as one of the best high voltage SMD resistors in the industry.
The award winning HVC series uses a different method of depositing the thick film resistance material on the substrate. This proprietary process yields a resistance element that is many times more stable, less noisy, and is capable of much higher voltages and resistance values as compared to most other high voltage resistors currently available. The new absolute maximum voltage ratings by chip size are as follows: 2512 rated up to 25KV, 2010 rated up to 20KV, 1206 rated up to 15KV, 0805 rated up to 10KV, and the 0603 rated up to 5KV.
Applications for this product cover a wide range of medical applications, high voltage power supplies, personal protection devices, night vision goggles, baggage scanning equipment, instrumentation, and power and phone distribution safety circuitry.
The HVC series is available in standard tape and reel packaging on 7 inch reels. Pricing varies greatly with size, tolerance, TCR, and resistance value, but ranges typically from $.40 each to around $4.00 each.
