Expanding its series designed for applications in high sulfur environments...

STACKPOLE ELECTRONICS, INC. ANNOUNCES THE EXPANSION OF THE RMCG SERIES OF SULFUR IMPERVIOUS CHIPS

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 29, 2008) - Resistor manufacturer Stackpole Electronics, Inc. (www.seielect.com) announces the expansion of its RMCG series of sulfur impervious chip resistors. The RMCG is available in sizes from 0402 up to 2512, in tolerances as low as 1%, and now is available in resistance values down to 1 ohm and up to 10 Meg.

Sulfur has been shown to cause open circuit failures for standard thick film resistor chips in certain applications where a high concentration of sulfur is present. Sulfur can be found in a variety of types of rubber, gaskets, hoses, oils, and other lubricants. The sulfur reacts with the silver in the inner termination materials to form silver sulfide, which is non-conductive and results in an open circuit. The RMCG has a gold barrier under the solderable 100% matte tin plating to protect the inner terminations and prevent any sulfur contamination from occurring. There are similar products currently on the market that advertise being sulfur resistant, but for those products sulfur contamination can still occur and may eventually lead to failure, though at a slower rate. For applications that require long term reliability, the best solution is to use a technology that is completely impervious to sulfur contamination, such as the RMCG.

The resistance value range expansion will allow the application of the RMCG across a wider range of end products, such as power products which typically use lower resistance values and medical and measurement devices that typically require high resistance values. Automotive and industrial light and heavy equipment may require this type of device as well as security and metering circuitry and equipment.

The RMCG is 100% RoHS compliant and is available in standard 7 " reels. Pricing varies with size and tolerance, but ranges from $20 per thousand for the 0402 chip size to $200 for the 2512 chip size.
