FUSIBLE WIREWOUNDS OFFER ROBUST PERFORMANCE YET FAILSAFE UNDER CONTINUOUS OVERLOAD

RALEIGH, NC (June 24, 2009) - The WWF Series from Stackpole is a fusible conformal coated wirewound. Wirewounds are well known for their excellent surge handling characteristics. However, there are applications where they may be subjected to constant or sustained overload, which could cause excessive heat build up and potentially even cause a fire. The WWF Series offers stable and reliable performance with a uniform and repeatable fusing characteristic. This characteristic can also be adjusted to fuse quickly so that minimal heat is generated, or more slowly for applications that normally cause fusing resistors to open too quickly. In addition, they can be designed to withstand high voltage surges and can even have their inherent inductance adjusted up or down.

The most popular example currently is the requirement to survive 6KV inrush pulses without failing, yet fail without flame or excessive heat when subjected to steady state overloads of 120 VAC or 240 VAC. These requirements together require extensive knowledge and experience to choose the right materials and processes to achieve the required response. These types of application requirements are seen across a wide variety of markets including appliances and white goods, electric power tools, meters and metering equipment, motor control circuitry, and outdoor security installations and equipment.

The WWF Series is available in standard tape and reel packaging in quantities from 250 pcs to 2500 pcs depending on size. Pricing varies widely with resistance value, size and tolerance, and ranges from $0.20 each to $1.75 each in full reel quantities. Contact Stackpole for volume pricing.
