RNCP Series thin film resistors offer high power rating in a low profile chip...

Stackpole Develops Low Cost Sulfur-Resistant Chip for Power Supply Applications

RALEIGH, NC (August 25, 2009) - Providing a reliable alternative to high-power thick film resistive technology, SEI has developed a high-performance thin film resistor series that provides high power ratings and is impervious to sulfur contamination. Designated the RNCP Series, the resistor provides all the advantages of thin film technology including high power handling, high stability and low noise. The RNCP Series' thin film technology and anti-sulfur properties bridge the gap between reliable high-performance resistors and low cost devices. In addition, the RNCP Series does not have any lead-containing glass, making it RoHS-complaint without exemptions.

The RNCP Series is suitable for a broad range of applications and end products requiring high power and long-term reliability in a low profile chip resistor. The RNCP Series is ideal for all types of regulated and unregulated AC-to-DC adapters (2.5W to 15W) including interchangeable clip, wall mount and desktop versions.

"The RNCP Series sulfur-resistant chip offers twice the normal power rating compared to standard thick film and is a lower cost alternative to conventional thin film chip resistors," said Kory Schroeder, Director of Marketing at SEI. "The elimination of silver and gold make the devices impervious to sulfur contamination and reduces the cost of the resistor such that it is within 10 percent of the cost of standard general purpose thick film chips."

Featuring absolute tolerances to 1% and a TCR of 100ppm/°C, the RNCP Series is available in 0402, 0603, 0805 and 1206 chip sizes, with power ratings from 0.1W to 0.5W and maximum working voltages from 50V to 200V.

The RNCP Series is available on standard 7-inch reels. Pricing varies with chip size, tolerance, and resistance value and ranges from around $1.00 per thousand to $10 per thousand in full reel quantities; contact Stackpole for volume pricing.
