Highly accurate thin film resistors are a low-cost alternative to conventional technology…

RALEIGH, NC (December 31, 2009) – Stackpole Electronics Inc. has developed a series of low profile chip resistors that ensures high accuracy with a low standard TCR (temperature coefficient of resistance). Designated the RNCP Series, the low-cost alternative to high-power thick film resistive technology features a high tolerance to harsh environments, including shock, vibration and temperature extremes. The RNCP Series does not use lead-containing glass and eliminates the use of silver and gold, which are used in traditional sulfur resistant application. This advancement reduces the cost of the resistor to within 10% of a traditional standard thick film chip and significantly reduces noise and interrupted power.

The thin film RNCP Series provides high-power handling, stability and low noise, making them ideal for audio and visual applications such as portable camcorders, portable disc players, MP3 players, mobile phones and headphones.

“The RNCP Series significantly reduces noise and interference, producing a high-quality audio and video signal,” said Kory Schroeder, Director of Marketing at Stackpole Electronics. “Trends show consumers demand high-performance products with increased functionality in smaller packages. With the use of thin-film technology, these resistors meet miniature size requirements while enhancing performance and increasing product life.”

Featuring absolute tolerances to 1% and a TCR of +/-100ppm/°C, the RNCP Series resistors are available in 0402, 0603, 0805 and 1206 chip sizes, with power ratings from 0.1W to 0.5W and maximum working voltages from 50V to 200V.

The RNCP Series is available on standard 7-inch reels. Pricing varies with chip size, tolerance, and resistance value and ranges from around $1.00 per thousand to $10.00 per thousand in full reel quantities; contact Stackpole for volume pricing.
